Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital

We have been here at Bhagwati Niwas for quite a while now. Most people in Ajmer know exactly where we are because we’re right in Civil Lines near the old HMT area. It’s a busy part of town but the hospital stays relatively quiet inside most of the time. The walls are painted a light color that we try to keep clean despite the dust that constantly blows in from the street. Every morning the staff comes in around eight and the first thing we do is check the handwritten lists for the day. There isn’t much fancy stuff here, just the medical equipment we need and rows of plastic chairs for people to wait. Sometimes the waiting area gets really full, especially on Monday mornings when everyone seems to show up at once. We’ve got a small canteen nearby where we grab tea when things slow down for a minute or two. The building itself is an older one, so it has that solid, heavy feel to it. Living and working around Civil Lines means we see the same faces passing by the windows often. It’s just how things go in this neighborhood. We don’t spend a lot of time talking about what we do, we just get on with it and handle the patients as they arrive. The ceiling fans hum all day long to keep the air moving. Some days are long and exhausting, but that’s the nature of a place like this. We just keep the doors open.
