Ankit General Store

My brother and I have been at Ankit General Store on Cavandas Pura Road for a long time now. It’s right there in Diggi Bazar near Civil Lines. Most mornings start around seven when the milk delivery comes. It gets pretty loud outside once the traffic picks up. We keep a bit of everything on the shelves, mostly things people need for their kitchens like salt, oil, and lentils. Some days it’s just locals popping in for a single pack of biscuits or a bar of soap. The floor is old stone and it’s hard to keep the dust out because the road is always busy with scooters and rickshaws. We don't have fancy lights or anything. Just a few fans to keep the heat away. Sometimes the neighbors sit here for a few minutes just to talk about the weather or the price of onions. It’s a small place, packed with boxes and bags. You have to watch your step because space is tight. We try to keep the stock fresh. If something runs out, we get it the next day. It’s a simple life really. We close up when the sun goes down and the street gets a bit quieter. Diggi Bazar is a crowded part of town, so there is always someone walking by. We’ve seen kids grow up and start buying things for their own houses now. That's just how it goes here in this corner of the world.
