About Nguri Weaving Handicraft – Art & Craft in Aizawl
If you look for Nguri Weaving Handicraft, you’ll find us at B-8 Church Street in Electric Veng. It’s a nice enough spot, though the street can get a bit crowded on certain days of the week. We spend most of our time here working with our hands. You can hear the sound of the equipment clicking away from the moment we open up in the morning. It’s a bit of a rhythmic sound that you stop noticing after a while. The building itself is older, but it holds up well enough for what we need. We have some space for the materials and a corner where we sit for our breaks. Electric Veng is a place where people generally know each other, so we see the same faces passing by the window every day. Sometimes we stop to chat, but mostly we’re focused on the weaving. It takes a lot of patience to do this kind of work, and we don’t like to rush things. We have a few different rooms where different parts of the process happen. It can get a bit dusty with all the threads and fibers flying around, but we keep a broom handy. We aren't interested in being some big corporate entity; we just like the work and the fact that we have a place to do it. It’s a modest operation, and that suits us just fine. Someone is usually around to answer the door if you knock.
