My Kop

Up here in Aizawl, things move a bit differently on Zarkawt Main Street. We are in the Lungtiawii Building, which is pretty easy to find if you are near the ICICI Bank. My Kop is just a small spot where we spend our time working through the day. The street outside is almost always packed with cars and people walking up and down the hills. Some days it rains so hard you can barely see across the road, and we just watch the water run down the gutters while we wait for the next person to walk in. Inside, it’s mostly just us and the stuff we sell. We didn't spend a lot of money on making the place look polished, so you’ll see some scuffs on the walls and the chairs don’t all match. It feels like home to us, though. We usually have the radio playing some local music in the background while we sort through the inventory or clean the glass cases. Aizawl is a tight place and everyone seems to know everyone else’s business, so we get a lot of people just popping their heads in to say hello. We don’t do anything fancy here, just basic service and keeping the shop open from Monday to Saturday. It’s a quiet life for the most part, even with all the noise from the main street. We just keep our heads down and get the work done.
