Vaidya Accident Hospital

Out here in Rahuri, things can get pretty intense at the hospital. Being an accident hospital means we don't really have a set schedule. We are always prepared for someone to come in needing help right away. It’s a plain building with a lot of light. We spend most of our time on our feet, moving between rooms or checking on people who are staying over. The air always smells a bit like cleaning supplies and floor wax. Rahuri is a place where people work hard, often in jobs that can be dangerous, so we see a lot of that here. The nights can be long, especially when it’s quiet and you’re just waiting for the next thing to happen. We have a small kitchen area where we make coffee and tea. It’s a bit of a mess most of the time because we are too busy to clean it up properly. The staff here has been together for a while, so we know how each other works without having to say much. We don't have time for fancy talk or corporate meetings. We just do the work that needs doing. Sometimes the families of the people here stay in the waiting area for a long time, so we try to make sure they have a place to sit and rest. It’s a heavy job, but it’s what we do here in Rahuri. We don't think about it much, we just keep going.
