Shiv Sundar Clinic

Aurangabad Road is a long stretch of tarmac with constant traffic. Shiv Sundar Clinic is right there on the side of it, and we hear the trucks go by all day long. It gets pretty dusty inside, so I’m usually busy with a rag wiping down the desk and chairs. We don't have fancy decorations or anything. There are just some old calendars on the wall and a clock that ticks quite loud when it's quiet. People stop in because they live nearby or they're just traveling down Aurangabad Road and need something. In the afternoons, the sun comes right through the front door and makes the whole place very bright. I keep a water bottle tucked away behind the counter for when it gets hot. The clinic isn't very big, but we manage to fit everyone in even if it gets a bit crowded. Some days are slow and I just watch the cars and bikes zoom past the window. Other days, four or five people come in at once and we all have to squeeze together. We don’t have a big staff here. It’s just us doing the daily work. Aurangabad Road has its own rhythm and we’ve become a part of it over the years. It’s a simple, practical place. We open up early and stay until the evening light fades. Most folks around here know the door is always unlocked during the day.
