Our place at Plot No. 1805 in Phase-3 of Gidc is easy to miss if you aren’t looking for the sign. Hallmark Compressor Pvt. Ltd. is basically a busy hub where we deal with air and pressure all day long. The Gidc area is always humming with noise from other factories, and our plot is right in the thick of it. Inside, it is mostly rows of parts and the heavy smell of machine oil. We don't have those slick corporate offices with carpets. Here, it’s concrete floors and metal shelves filled with valves and gaskets. The morning starts with checking the schedule and making sure the inventory is where it should be. Sometimes the delivery trucks get stuck in the narrow lanes of Phase-3, which can be a real headache, but we manage. Most of us have been working together for quite a while, so we don't need to talk much to know what needs doing. Lunch is usually a quick affair, sometimes brought from home and eaten at the small table near the back door. In the afternoons, when the sun hits the metal roof, it gets pretty warm, but we just keep the shutters open for whatever breeze comes through. It’s a practical way of living and working. We focus on the compressors and making sure the parts fit right. It isn't a glamorous job, but it is what we do here. There is always someone moving boxes or testing a motor, so the days go by pretty fast for everyone.
