If you’re looking for Umiya Rubber Roller Industries, we’re right opposite Sadvichar Hospital in the Ambika Estate. Plot No. 2 is where we’ve set up shop, near the Telephone Exchange in the Naroda GIDC area. The smell of rubber is pretty strong the moment you walk through the door. We make rollers, so the machines are always humming and there’s a lot of heat coming off the presses. It’s a busy part of Naroda, and the traffic near the hospital can get pretty backed up in the afternoons. Our workshop is filled with various sizes of rollers and metal cores waiting to be coated. We don’t have much in the way of decoration. The walls are mostly just bare brick or painted a dull grey. It’s a practical space for practical work. Most of the guys have been with us for years, so we all know the routine. We spend the day lifting and moving heavy parts, so it’s a good workout. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait for the generator to kick in, which gives us a few minutes to catch our breath and grab some water. We’re not a big corporation, just a local outfit trying to do right by the people who need our parts. It’s a lot of sweat and hard work, but we take pride in seeing a finished roller leave the shop looking exactly how it should.
