Shaleen Ceramics

Our workshop is located at B-11 in the Chinai Baug Estate, Dudheshwar Road, which is easy to find. If you come by, you’ll see it’s a typical industrial spot. There is usually a bit of dust in the air because of the ceramics, and the floors aren't exactly spotless. We spend our days working with clay and kilns. It gets pretty hot in here during the summer months, but we’re used to it by now. We’ve been at this location for years. The estate is full of other small businesses, so there is always a lot of noise from trucks and machinery nearby. We don’t have a fancy showroom. If you want to see what we’re making, you just have to look at the pieces sitting on the drying racks. It’s hands-on work. Sometimes a piece breaks or the glaze doesn’t come out right, and we just have to start over. That’s just part of the job. Most of us have been working together for a while, so we have a good rhythm going. We drink a lot of tea to keep us going through the afternoon. Dudheshwar Road is a busy stretch, and getting things delivered can be a bit of a headache with the traffic. But we like it here. It’s a place where we can actually make things with our hands. It’s not a corporate office; it’s a working shop. We just keep the kilns running and hope for the best results. It's rewarding work.
