Operating Shakti Wire Industries right off National Highway 8 in Naroda means we deal with a lot of noise. Being opposite the railway station adds to the sounds of trains and trucks passing by all day. It’s a very industrial part of the world. We spend our days dealing with wire and all the machinery that goes with it. The floor is usually covered in metal scraps and the smell of oil is always there. It’s a tough environment, but it’s where we work. We’ve seen the area change over the years as the highway got busier. Most of our workers live nearby, so we’re a local bunch. We don’t have a marketing department or anyone to write fancy brochures. We just answer the phone and try to get the wire out on time. Sometimes the power goes out or a machine breaks down, and we have to spend the afternoon fixing it ourselves. It’s just the way things are here. The office is small and usually has stacks of invoices everywhere. We drink a lot of chai to keep going through the long shifts. It’s not glamorous, but Shakti Wire Industries is a solid part of Naroda. People know where to find us because of the big sign near the station. We just keep our heads down and do the work. It’s been a long journey for us in this spot.
