Sal Steel

Down here in Gandhidham, Kutch, things stay pretty dusty most of the time. We are right in the middle of the industrial belt in Gujarat. Working with steel isn't exactly a clean job, so our clothes usually have some grit on them by noon. The landscape around here is flat and the sun is really strong. We spend most of our time dealing with heavy loads and making sure the metal goes where it’s supposed to go. It’s a busy district with trucks moving in and out of the port area constantly. We don’t have a flashy office. It’s mostly just functional space where we can track orders and talk to the drivers. Sometimes the wind picks up and blows sand everywhere, which is just part of living in Kutch. We’ve been operating in this area for a while now. Most of the guys here are local or moved here for the industrial work. We don't talk much about "visions" or anything like that. We just focus on the heat of the day and getting the steel moved. It’s heavy work, and it can be tiring when it’s 40 degrees outside. The tea here is okay, but the heat is the real thing you have to deal with. We keep a big water cooler in the corner that gets a lot of use. It’s a straightforward business in a straightforward town. We just show up and do what needs to be done.
