Shah Jayantilal Nyalchand

Shah Jayantilal Nyalchand has been around for a long time, tucked away at 690, Lambeshwarni Pole. If you know the Relief Road area in Ahmedabad, you know how crowded and tight the lanes can be. We are right in Manikwala’S Dehla, opposite the Calico Dome. It’s a place full of history, though most days we are too busy to think about that. The building is old and has that specific smell of wood and time. We get a lot of noise from the main road, but once you step into the pole, things get a bit quieter. Navigating the scooters and pedestrians to get here every morning is a bit of a challenge. Our workspace is small and filled with ledgers and old furniture that has seen better days. We don't use much fancy technology here; we prefer doing things the way they have always been done. It works for us. The neighbors are mostly other businesses that have been here as long as we have. We know the tea seller and the guy who delivers the mail by name. It’s a community. Sometimes the roof leaks a little when it rains heavy in the monsoon, or the stairs feel a bit steep, but we don't mind. It is our home for the workday. We just open the shutters, sweep the floor, and start our work just like our fathers did before us. It is a slow pace compared to the rest of the city.
