Amlo is a pretty quiet spot in Jharkhand, or it was until we started our work here. We are based in the Bermo district, right near the police station. It is not the easiest place to run a business because the roads are often rough and the weather is very unpredictable. We have our office set up here because we need to be as close to the project sites as possible. There is always a lot of dirt and noise from the machinery, but that is just how it is in our line of work. Our office is a basic building where we keep all our records and meet with the foremen. We do not have a big headquarters in a city. Sometimes the internet is slow, and we have to wait a long time just to send a few emails, which can be frustrating. People in the village know us by now. We hire local workers whenever we can because they understand the land better than anyone else. It is not a glamorous life at all. We drink a lot of tea and spend hours talking about the next phase of a build. The office is full of old files and heavy boots sitting in the corner. It feels lived in and a bit messy. We do not care about looking polished. We just want to make sure the work is solid and the trucks keep moving.
