You can find Denish Knit Industries Ltd. at Plot No. 103 inside the GIDC. It’s a busy knitting unit where the sound of the needles is pretty much constant from Monday to Saturday. Working with various types of fabric is our main focus. The floor is usually covered in lint and small bits of thread, no matter how much we sweep. It’s just part of the job when you’re working with textiles. Row after row of machines need regular oiling and maintenance to keep them from jamming up. Most of us here have been working in the garment or knit industry for years. Instead of a high-tech lab, this is a practical workspace where we get the fabric ready for the next guy in the chain. Sometimes the yarn we get isn't the best quality, and we have to spend time sorting through it, which can be a real headache. No big marketing budget exists here. We just focus on finishing the rolls of fabric and getting them loaded onto the trucks. Even though the GIDC can be a bit of a maze, we've been at this plot for a long time so most of the drivers know where to turn. It’s a lot of standing and watching the machines to make sure nothing goes wrong. When it’s busy, staying late is necessary to make sure we don't fall behind on the schedule.
