Getting to Regal Estate can be a bit of a challenge in the afternoons because the Gujarat Bottling Road is always packed with trucks and delivery vans. We are at unit 2 11, right across from where the old Kashiram factory sits. It’s an industrial area, so there is always the smell of grease and the sound of heavy engines nearby. Inside our space at Umiya Products, things are pretty straightforward. We have the machinery set up on one side and the finished goods on the other. Rakhial is a busy part of Ahmedabad, and we’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit since we first moved in. The walls are a little stained from the years of production, and the ceiling is high enough to keep it from feeling too stuffy. We aren’t really into the whole modern office look. Our desks are old wood and the chairs have seen better days, but they are comfortable enough for a long day’s work. When the rain comes down hard, you can hear it drumming on the roof, which makes it hard to talk sometimes. We usually just nod at each other and keep the line moving. It’s a practical place for people who don’t mind getting their hands a little dirty. We don’t have a fancy lobby or anyone to greet you at the door, you just walk in and find someone in the back working. It works for us and the work we do.
