R. R. Gold

We are over here at Manak Chok in Ahmedabad. If you know the area, you know it is always busy and full of people moving around. R. R. Gold has been a part of this market for a long time. Our shop isn't anything like those big fancy stores you see in the malls. It is a practical space where we sit every day and do our work with gold. Every morning, we come in and roll up the metal shutters. You can hear the noise of the street right away. There is a tea stall not far from us, and the smell of breakfast usually fills the air early on. We deal with local families who have been coming to Manak Chok for generations. Sometimes they just stop by to say hello or ask about prices. The space inside is small but we have everything we need. We don't spend money on big posters or radio ads. Most people find us because they were walking by or their uncle told them where we were. Ahmedabad gets very hot in the summer, so we have a fan that runs all day. It’s a bit noisy but it keeps things moving. We stay open until the evening when the market starts to quiet down a little, though Manak Chok never really sleeps. It’s just how things are here. We are just regular people doing a regular job in a very old part of town. It’s simple work really.
