You can find Plywood Home at 42A, Chittaranjan Avenue. If you’ve ever walked down that street, you know the vibe—lots of old buildings and plenty of noise from the traffic. Inside our place, it mostly smells like wood and a bit of dust. We have stacks of plywood leaning against the walls, and sometimes it feels like the piles are going to reach the ceiling. It’s not exactly a showroom like the ones you see in magazines. It’s more of a working space where we cut things to size and help people figure out what they need for their houses. We spend a lot of time moving heavy sheets around, so everyone here has a bit of muscle. The light isn't great in the back, but we’ve got some old lamps that do the trick. We don't really do much in the way of fancy talk; if someone needs wood, we show them what we have and tell them the price. The phone rings a lot, usually someone asking if a delivery is on the way. During the monsoon, the humidity makes everything feel a bit heavy, but that’s just life in this city. We've been at this for years, and most of the guys working here know the difference between grades of wood just by touching them. It’s a simple business, really. We just show up, do the work, and go home.
