Ganesh Ice Factory

Ganesh Ice Factory is tucked away at Plot No. 79/5 in the first phase of GIDC, Vatva. If you walk into our place, the first thing you notice is the sound of the compressors chugging along. It is a steady hum that you get used to after about ten minutes. We spend most of our time dealing with the brine tanks and the heavy metal cans where the ice freezes. It takes a lot of hours for the water to get solid, and we have to keep an eye on things so everything stays on schedule. The guys here wear heavy boots because the ground is slippery and cold. Outside on the street, it is the usual Vatva scene with trucks backing in and out and people rushing around. We have a small area where we stack the blocks before they go out. It isn't a glamorous job, and your hands usually stay cold even when it is forty degrees outside. We just stay busy making the ice and making sure the loading area stays clear for the next delivery. Sometimes the traffic on the main road makes it hard for the tempos to get in, but we manage. We’ve been at this plot for a while now, and the routine hasn't changed much over the years. It’s just about keeping the water freezing and the trucks moving out.
