If you find yourself in Phase-4 of GIDC in Vatva, you’ll likely pass by our place at Plot No. 3507/D. It is a bit of a maze back here, but we like it. The air always has a bit of a sharp scent because of the work we do with colors. We spend our hours mixing and checking batches. Sometimes your hands stay stained for a couple of days even after scrubbing hard with soap. It’s just the nature of the job. The building is a simple concrete structure. Inside, there are bins and drums everywhere. We have a small office tucked in the corner where the fan hums all day long. It gets pretty hot in the afternoons, especially in the summer months. We mostly talk about the day's schedule or what needs to go out on the next truck. There is no big corporate ladder here, just a few of us making sure the shades come out right. The floor is covered in spots of different hues from over the years. We keep the ledger books on a shelf that’s seen better days. Dealing with the pigments takes patience and a lot of cleaning up afterwards. We don’t have any fancy signs or shiny lobbies. It is just a workspace where we get things done and then go home to our families. Every day feels pretty much the same, and that suits us fine. The gate sticks a bit in the rainy season, but we know how to open it.
