Plot No. 2011/A is where you’ll find us most days. Lubgraf Synoils Pvt. Ltd. operates right in the middle of Phase-4, GIDC. It’s a practical sort of place without any unnecessary bells or whistles. We focus on the oils we produce, and that means a lot of time spent around storage tanks and mixing vats. The air inside the unit is thick with the scent of synthetic base stocks. It’s a very industrial environment, with pipes running along the ceiling and heavy-duty pumps humming in the background. Our team is small, mostly people who have lived in Ahmedabad their whole lives. We don’t spend much on decorations; the walls are just plain brick and mortar. There’s a small break room where we keep a stove for making tea, which is pretty much the heart of the social life here. We talk about the weather or the cricket scores while we wait for the batches to finish. The trucks come in through the main gate, which is a bit narrow for the larger ones. It takes some skill for the drivers to back them in without hitting the gateposts. We’ve seen a lot of businesses come and go in Vatva, but we’ve stayed put at 2011/A for a good while. It’s just our corner of the world, and we keep it running as best as we can.
