Our shop is over on Angappa Naicken Street at number 139. It is an old part of the city, and the building reflects that. At Petro-Mechanical Equipment Company, we spend our time surrounded by heavy parts, gaskets, and tools that most people wouldn't recognize. It’s a bit of a greasy job, and our hands are rarely clean by lunch time. The street outside is always full of people moving goods on handcarts, so there is a constant background noise of shouting and wheels on pavement. We don't have a glossy catalog or a website that does everything for us. Most of our customers just walk in or call us because they know we carry the mechanical stuff they need for their machines. We have shelves that go all the way to the ceiling, and sometimes we have to use a shaky ladder to get what a customer wants. It’s not a fancy way to make a living, but it works for us. We aren't interested in all that modern marketing stuff. We just know our inventory and we know our prices. If a part isn't in stock, we tell you straight away and try to find out when it will be. We’ve been doing this for years, and the routine of the shop is something we've grown quite fond of despite the hard work. We don't have big meetings or anything, just a quick chat over tea before we start the day's work.
