Parekh House is an old building on Lenin Sarani, and we’ve been on the first floor at 161 for quite some time now. The street outside is always packed with people and yellow taxis, so there is a constant hum of traffic coming through the windows. Inside, the ceilings are high and the walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but it feels like home to us. We have heavy wooden desks and filing cabinets that have seen better days. Every morning, the first thing we do is open up the shutters and let some air in, even if it’s just the city air. Our work involves a lot of paperwork and talking to people who come by for business. It’s not the kind of place with bright lights or modern furniture. We keep things pretty traditional here. Sometimes the electricity acts up, but we just manage. We have a small pantry where we make tea, and that’s where most of our planning happens. The staff has been together for years, so we don't need to say much to know what needs doing. Lenin Sarani is a historical part of the city, and being in this old house makes us feel part of that history. We don’t do anything flashy. We just handle our daily tasks and try to stay organized amidst all the files. It’s a steady pace of work that keeps us busy from morning until evening when the street finally starts to quiet down a little bit.
