Getting to our place at 26, Gopinath Estate Part-2 in Odhav can be a bit of a struggle if you hit the traffic near Soni Ni Chal. It is a busy part of Ahmedabad and there is always something going on in the streets. We are tucked behind the Swaminarayan Chambers, which usually helps people find us when they are coming for the first time. Inside the unit, it’s mostly the sound of the plastic molding machines and the smell of raw materials. We have been working out of this space for quite some years now. It gets pretty dusty, especially in the summer, so we are always sweeping up the floor. There isn’t much of a front office, just a small desk where we keep the ledger and handle the phone calls that come in. Most of our day is spent watching the production and making sure nothing gets stuck. We have a small crew and we eat lunch together most days sitting on whatever stools are free. The trucks come in the afternoon to pick up what we finished in the morning. Sometimes the power goes out for a bit, and we just wait it out outside near the gate. It’s not a glamorous job, but it is what we do. We know the other shop owners around here well, and we help each other out with tools or change when needed.
