Harmony Fabrics

Our shop, Harmony Fabrics, is located at 609 Devpath. We are tucked behind the Lal Bungalow, just off C.G. Road in Navrangpura. It's a bit quieter back here than on the main road, which is nice. We have bolts of cloth everywhere you look. Cotton, synthetics, prints—it’s all stacked up on the shelves and sometimes on the floor when a new shipment comes in. The air always smells a bit like starch and dye. We spend a lot of time unrolling fabric for people to look at and then rolling it back up again. It’s a lot of arm work. Navrangpura is a central place, so we get a mix of regulars and people who just happened to wander down the lane. We don't have any fancy lighting or displays, just long tables where we can measure and cut the cloth. Sometimes the scissors get dull and we have to find the sharpener. It’s a small operation, mostly just family and a couple of helpers. We’ve been at this for years, so we can usually tell what a fabric is just by feeling it. We don't really do advertisements; people just know we’re behind the bungalow. It’s a simple life, surrounded by colors and patterns every day. We hope to keep doing this for a long time. It gets a bit hot in the afternoons, so we keep the fans going at full speed.
