National Auto Air Conditioning

Working on car AC units in Khanpur means you’re always dealing with the heat. We are right opposite Hotel Korgen, near the old Khanpur Gate. It’s a dusty spot and my clothes are usually covered in oil by lunchtime. We don't have a fancy showroom. It’s mostly just a garage space and a lot of tools scattered around. When the summer hits, we are incredibly busy. Cars line up all the way down the street because nobody wants to drive around Ahmedabad without cooling. We spend our days leaning over engines and checking for gas leaks. It’s heavy work and your back definitely feels it by the end of the shift. We’ve been at this location for years, so we know most of the taxi drivers and locals who pass by. If you’re looking for a place where you can sit in a plush chair while you wait, this isn’t it. Most customers just hang out by the gate or go across to the hotel for a tea. We use a lot of copper pipes and refrigerant canisters that clutter up the corners of the shop. It’s a practical business. We don't talk much while we work because we need to focus on the compressors and the wiring. Khanpur Gate is a landmark and it helps people find us easily even if they aren't from this part of town. It’s honest, sweaty work and we wouldn't change it.
