Rekha Press Cutting Works

We've been at Plot No. 8 in the Maruti Industrial Estate for a while now. Most days it’s just the sound of the machines and people moving metal around Naroda. It gets pretty loud in here when everything is running at once, but that’s just how it goes in this part of town. We don’t have a fancy office or anything like that. It’s a workspace through and through. You’ll usually see a few of us in greasy overalls or carrying sheets of material from one side of the floor to the other. There is a lot of dust sometimes, especially in the afternoons. People come by asking about specific cuts or just to see if we can handle a certain job. We just show them what the presses are doing and give them a straight answer. It’s not complicated work, but it takes time to get things lined up right. Sometimes the electricity acts up in the estate, so we have to wait a bit, but mostly we stay busy from morning until the sun goes down. There’s a small tea stall nearby where we go during breaks. Most of the guys here have lived in this area for years. We aren't trying to be the biggest place on the block, just trying to keep the machines humming. If you walk past the gate, you’ll hear the clanking sounds long before you see the sign. It’s just us doing what we know how to do.
