Ahmedabad Porcelain Industries

We are located in Phase I of the Naroda G.I.D.C. estate at Plot No.303/1/2. Because it is a big industrial area, there is always a lot of noise and trucks moving around. We work with porcelain here. That means dealing with a lot of clay and a lot of heat. We have these large kilns that stay running almost all the time. It gets very hot inside the workshop, especially in the afternoons. You eventually get used to the temperature after you have worked here for a while. We make different porcelain items, mostly for industrial use. It is a messy process. There is a fine white dust that covers almost everything in the building. We usually wear our oldest clothes because they are going to get ruined by the clay anyway. Our workers have been doing this for many years. They have a real feel for the material. You can't just learn this stuff from a book or a video. It is all about knowing the right timing and the right temperature for the fire. We don't have a fancy showroom for visitors. If you want to see what we are making, you just have to come into the factory. We aren't interested in being a big corporate name. We just want to make decent porcelain. Naroda is a crowded place, so moving the goods out can be a challenge, but we make it work every day.
