Naren Kini Interiors

Naren Kini Interiors is located at 5/3, Dover Place, on the first floor of the building. Dover Place is one of those nicer, quieter streets in Kolkata where there are a lot of old trees and the pace feels a bit slower than the main roads. Our office is a space filled with all sorts of things you would expect to find in an interior design place. We have stacks of carpet samples, pieces of wood, and folders full of fabric swatches sitting on every available surface. It is often quite a mess because we are always pulling things out to show someone or to compare colors. There are three or four of us who work here, mostly sitting at large drafting tables or hunched over laptops. The light in the afternoon is quite good because of the large windows, but we have to keep them closed to keep the mosquitoes out. The building has high ceilings which helps it stay cool, though we have the fans going most of the time anyway. We spend a lot of time talking to contractors on the phone and drawing up plans on big sheets of paper. It is not a showroom where everything is perfect and polished. It is a working studio where we get our hands dirty with samples and sketches. Sometimes we go down to the local cafe to get away from the clutter for a bit.
