Out here in Pethapur, things move a bit differently than they do in the big city. My name is Kamlesh B. Patel and I’ve been running things from this spot near the old water tank for a while now. It’s a familiar landmark for everyone in Sardhav Vas. If you’re coming through Gandhinagar, you might miss us if you’re not looking, but we are right there in the heart of the village area. Most days start early with a lot of tea and checking on whatever work is lined up for the week. We aren't a big team with fancy suits. It is usually just me and a couple of helpers making sure things get done right for the people who hire us. The office is simple because we spend most of our time out at the sites anyway. Living and working in the same area means everyone knows your face, so you have to be straight with people. We handle a mix of different jobs, whatever comes our way really. It’s been that way since the start. Some days the weather makes things hard, or the supplies don't show up on time, but we just figure it out. That’s just part of life here in Gujarat. We’ve been part of this community for a long time and we do not plan on going anywhere else. The old water tank is a good shadow to work in when it gets hot in the afternoons.
