Mrh Luggage Industries sits right here at No. 8 Niranjan Chawl, just across from the old Himadri Mill in Saraspur. Most days, the sound of sewing machines is the only thing you hear inside. It’s a busy spot because we’re also opposite the India Bull Shopping Center, so there is always traffic and people walking past. We started this because there was a need for sturdy bags that do not fall apart after a month. We mostly work with heavy fabrics and zippers that don't snag easily. The workshop isn't fancy at all. There are rolls of material stacked in the corners and thread clippings on the floor by evening. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit outside for a bit until it comes back. We make all sorts of travel gear, from small pouches to the bigger suitcases that people take on trains. It gets pretty cramped when a big order is ready to go out, but we manage somehow. People from the neighborhood stop in just to chat or ask if we can fix a broken strap on their old bag. We try to help out when we can. It’s just how things are around here. We don't have a big office or anything, just the work tables and the tools we use every day. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until the sun goes down over the mill.
