Modern Denim

We've been out here at the 10 km mark on the Sarkhej-Bavla highway for a good while now. Our place is in Moraiya village, just a bit past Sanand. Most days, it's just about getting the work done and making sure the fabric looks right. We deal with denim, obviously, given the name. It’s dusty work sometimes being near the National Highway 8A, but we like the spot. People around here know where we are. We have a lot of machines running most of the time. It gets loud. Some of the guys have been with us since we first set up shop. We aren't trying to do anything fancy, just making denim that holds up. Sometimes the trucks get delayed on the highway and things get a bit hectic in the yard. That’s just how it goes in this part of Gujarat. We spend a lot of time checking the threads and the indigo dyes. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we do. The village of Moraiya is quiet otherwise. We keep to ourselves mostly. If you’re driving down toward Bavla, you’ll see our gates. It’s a big space because you need room for all the rolls of cloth. We try to keep things moving. There is always a lot to sweep up at the end of the day. It’s just us doing our thing out here. We don't have a big office or anything like that, just the factory floor and some chairs.
