Mehta Thread

If you go down to the New Grain Market near Khokhra, you will find us at unit number 18. We are right by Gate No. 1, just opposite the old Anupam Cinema. It is a very busy area, especially in the mornings when the market is full of people. At Mehta Thread, we deal with all kinds of spools and cones in every color you can think of. The shop is small and the shelves go all the way up to the ceiling. We have to use a ladder most of the time to reach the top rows. It’s a bit of an old-fashioned way of doing things, but it works for us. We don't have a computer system for everything; we still write a lot of stuff down in our ledgers. The air in the market is always full of different smells, and the noise from the cinema crowds adds to the atmosphere. We know the other traders around here and we often share a newspaper in the afternoon. It’s not a polished business with a lobby or air conditioning. We just have a few stools for people to sit on while we find the right shade of thread for them. Sometimes we get orders from far away, but mostly it is local people coming in. We just keep our heads down and keep the shelves stocked up. It is a simple life in the middle of a crowded market.
