Arvind V. Khandelwal

My name is Arvind V. Khandelwal, and I work out of the R. P. Building at Madhavpura Chowk. I’m located on the first floor, right where Dev Spices is. If you’ve ever been to this part of town, you know it smells like pepper, cumin, and all sorts of other spices all day long. The air is thick with it. It’s an old building, nothing modern or sleek about it. The stairs are narrow and a bit worn down. I’ve been here for quite some time now. My day usually involves a lot of talking to traders and looking over accounts. It’s a busy area with people moving bags of goods and carts rattling across the ground outside. It gets quite noisy. My workspace is pretty basic. I’ve got a desk, some chairs for visitors, and stacks of ledgers and folders. I don’t use a lot of high-tech gadgets, just what I need to get through the day's work. It’s a traditional way of doing business in a traditional market area. Sometimes the dust from the spices makes you sneeze, but you get used to it after a week or two. I like being in the middle of the market. You get to hear all the news and see everyone who passes through the chowk. It’s a practical place to be. We don't have fancy decorations or a waiting room. People just come in, we talk about what needs doing, and they head back out. It’s just how business is done here.
