Machine Tools Corporation (Naroda Gidc)

Our place is over in Phase III of the Naroda GIDC estate, specifically at L/46/1. If you've ever been to this part of Ahmedabad, you know it's a huge place with rows and rows of similar-looking industrial units. We’ve been in this particular shed for a long time. It’s got a high corrugated roof that makes a lot of noise when it rains, but it keeps the sun off us during the summer. We mostly deal with machine tools for the bigger companies nearby. Inside, it’s mostly metal racks and heavy workbenches. We don't have a reception desk or a waiting room. Usually, people just walk straight onto the shop floor to find us. We’re usually wearing overalls that have seen better days. The work is steady but tiring. We focus on getting the dimensions right and making sure everything is sturdy. There’s a small corner with a desk where we handle the bills and the phone calls, but we’re rarely sitting there. Most of the day is spent on our feet. We know most of our neighbors, and we help each other out when someone needs a tool or an extra hand with a heavy load. It’s a rough and tumble environment, but it suits us fine. We aren't trying to be anything fancy, just a workshop in a busy industrial zone. We just do the work and try to stay out of the midday heat.
