Our place is tucked away at 1209, right on the ground floor of the Rupa Surchand Pole Corner. If you know Manek Chowk, you know how crowded it gets near the Abhusan Complex. It’s a lot of noise and people moving fast all day long. We deal with chains and bits of jewelry stuff mostly. The office is right there on M. G. Road, which is basically the heart of the market. It’s a small space, mostly filled with boxes and some display cases that have seen better days. My father started things here and now we just keep it going. The light isn't the best in the back, so we use a lot of lamps to see the small details on the metal. We have tea delivered from the stall across the street at least four times a day. It keeps us moving. The floor is old stone and it stays a bit cool even when the sun is beating down outside. Sometimes customers get lost trying to find the corner, so we end up standing by the pole to wave them in. It's not a corporate office with glass walls or anything like that. Just a practical place where we get the work done and talk to the regulars. Most of our day is spent weighing things and checking the links. It’s repetitive but it’s what we know how to do. Sometimes the market gets so loud we have to shout to hear each other, but we are used to it by now.
