Jay Cable Industries

At Jay Cable Industries, we spend our days at Plot No. 80 in the Tribhuvan Industrial Estate. We are right across from Road No. 11, so it’s pretty easy to find if you know the GIDC layout. We mostly deal with different types of wires and cables. There are spooling machines everywhere, and they make a steady humming sound all day long. It’s a bit of a maze with all the copper and plastic coatings lying around. We started out with just two machines, and now we have a few more squeezed into the space. The roof leaks a tiny bit when the rains are heavy, but we’ve got buckets for that. It’s just how it goes in these older sheds. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. It’s just me, my brother, and a handful of workers from the nearby area. We make sure the insulation is thick enough and the lengths are cut properly. Sometimes the tea stall guy comes around at eleven, and that’s the highlight of the morning. We’ve seen other shops come and go, but we’ve stayed put at Plot 80. It’s a steady life, making sure the cables are ready for whenever someone needs them for a project. The front gate squeaks every time someone enters, and we always say we will oil it, but we never do. We just keep working through the heat. The piles of scrap wire in the corner grow until the recycler comes by once a month to clear them out.
