Karnavati Brush Mfg. Co.

We’re over at 5/1-B, Pankaj Society, right across from the Vaishali Flats in the Bhatta area of Paldi. Karnavati Brush Mfg. Co. is exactly what it sounds like. We make brushes. The workshop is always full of bristles and wood or plastic handles. There’s a specific sound the machines make when they’re tufting the brushes, a sort of rhythmic clicking. It’s a small operation. We don’t have a big fancy factory, just this space in Paldi where we’ve been for quite some time. The floor is usually covered in little bits of scrap, and we sweep it up at the end of the day. It’s a family-type atmosphere here. Everyone knows how to do a bit of everything. We make brushes for all sorts of uses, some big, some small. We don’t spend money on marketing; our work usually speaks for itself when people see the brushes. It’s a bit cramped when we have a big order ready for shipping, but we make it work. The neighborhood is mostly residential, so we try not to be too loud too early in the morning. We just focus on making sure every brush is put together right before it goes out. There’s an old workbench near the window where we do the final checks. Sometimes we have a snack together in the afternoon when the machines are off. It's not a complicated life. We just make brushes and try to do it right. We use a few old fans to keep the air moving. It's just regular work.
