Jantar Dance Group

We are Jantar Dance Group and we practice out of Saraspur in Ahmedabad. Our space is at House No 198 in the Awas Yojana, Block No 7. It’s right near the Balapir Dargah, so it’s easy for the local kids and dancers to find us. We aren't a big professional studio with mirrors everywhere; it’s just a place where we get together to work on our routines. Most of us grew up around here in Saraspur and we just like to dance. We do performances for local festivals or weddings when people ask us to come. It’s a lot of practice and making sure everyone knows the steps. Sometimes the room gets a bit crowded, but we make it work. We don't have a big staff or a manager, just a group of people who enjoy what we do. People in the Awas Yojana know when we are practicing because they can hear the music. We don't have any fancy costumes until we actually go to a show. It’s just regular daily life for us, trying to get the moves right and teaching the younger ones. If you walk past Balapir Dargah, you're close to where we are. We just keep doing our thing every day, hoping the next performance goes well. It’s not about being famous, just about the community and the dancing we do here in Ahmedabad. We started as a small group of friends and it just grew from there. Now we try to keep the tradition going with every new dance we learn.
