Harshadbhai Mithalal & Co. is right in the heart of the action at 517, New Cloth Market, outside Raipur Gate. If you’ve ever been to Ahmedabad, you know how busy the cloth markets get. Our shop is surrounded by rolls of fabric and the constant shouting of loaders and rickshaw drivers. It’s a dusty place, and there’s always something being moved around. We’ve been here for years, dealing in textiles and cloth. The shop isn't modern; it has that old-school market feel with wooden benches and piles of samples everywhere. We spend most of the day talking to customers who come in to check the quality of the material. Sometimes we sit on the floor to look at the fabric properly. It gets really hot in the summer, and the ceiling fans just move the warm air around, but that’s just how it is. We drink a lot of tea to keep going. Our family has been doing this for a long time, so we know most of the other shop owners around Raipur Gate. It’s a community. We don't have a website or anything like that. People know where to find us. We keep our books manually for the most part, and it works. The market is noisy, crowded, and messy, but it’s where we belong and how we make our living every day. Trading in cloth is simply what we know best, and we keep at it from morning until the market finally shuts down for the night.
