Gujarat Tin Manufacturing Co.

Our workshop is at Namrata Estate on Nagarwel Hanuman Road. If you know the Amraiwadi area, you know it gets pretty dusty and loud with all the small factories around here. We have been running Gujarat Tin Manufacturing Co. from this unit, number 29, for quite some time. The smell of metal and solder is something you just get used to after a week. We have these old machines that make a lot of noise, but they still work fine for what we do. Making tin containers isn't the most glamorous job, but it is steady. My hands are usually a bit greasy by lunch. We don't have a receptionist or a big lobby. You just walk in and someone will be there near the stacks of sheets. The heat inside the shed can be a lot during May, but we just open the big shutters. Most of our neighbors are doing similar things, so there is always the sound of trucks loading up. We spend a lot of time measuring things and making sure the edges aren't too sharp. It's a lot of physical work, moving the heavy rolls of tin and keeping the scrap organized so nobody trips. We usually eat our lunch together on the wooden bench outside when the weather is decent. It’s a simple life here, just making things and keeping the business going year after year without any big fuss.
