Our center is located at Plot No. E/564 in the Sanand Engineering Estate, which is part of the Gidc. Working at Posco India Ahmedabad Steel Processing Center Pvt. Ltd. means dealing with a lot of heavy metal every day. The coils come in on these massive trailers and we have to move them around with the overhead cranes. It’s a loud place, and you definitely need your earplugs when the cutters are going. Sanand is a newer industrial area compared to some others, so the roads are a bit better, but it’s still a lot of dust and heat. We have a small team in the office handling the scheduling and a larger crew on the floor. It’s a lot of physical work, making sure the steel is cut to the right sizes and stacked properly. We don't have fancy furniture or a coffee machine; we just have a big water cooler and a kettle for tea. Sometimes the weather gets so hot that the metal is painful to touch, even with gloves. We just take it slow during those hours and try to stay hydrated. Most of us live in Ahmedabad and commute out here every morning, which takes about an hour depending on the traffic. It’s a routine that we’ve all gotten used to over the years. We aren't trying to impress anyone with a glossy image. We just process the steel and make sure it gets to where it’s going next.
