Dr Vishal Patel runs the place here at the Dental Wellness Centre. We are in room 302 of the Shalibhadra Complex. It’s right opposite the Jain Derasar and near Nehrunagar Cross Road in Ambavadi, Ahmedabad. It’s a typical dental clinic. We have the chairs, the lights, and that smell of antiseptic. People come in with toothaches or looking for implants. We try to make them feel okay, since no one really likes the dentist. It's just a small team. A couple of assistants and the doctor. We’ve been in this part of Gujarat for quite a while. The waiting room has some old magazines and some chairs that have seen better days. We don't have a big fancy lobby. It’s more about fixing teeth. Some days are really packed and the phone doesn't stop. Other days we have time to sit and drink some chai. We know many of the families around here. They’ve been coming to us for years. It’s not a corporate hospital. It’s just a local clinic where we know your name. We don't use big words to explain things. We just show you what’s wrong and tell you how much it will cost. The stairs in the complex can be a bit much if the lift is slow. We just stay busy and try to help people get rid of their pain. That’s about all we do here every day. It's enough to keep us on our toes.
