Desai Con.Ltd. is based out in Shirud Digar, which is a village in the Shahada Taluka of Nandurbar. Being in a rural part of Maharashtra means our office is quite different from what you would find in a city like Mumbai. We are surrounded by fields and the pace of life is much slower here. Our work involves a lot of local construction, building things that the community needs. The office is a simple structure that we’ve used for many years. It is mostly filled with tools, site maps, and the records of the workers we employ from the nearby villages. During the monsoon season, the roads can get quite muddy, so things slow down a bit then. We have a small team of local people who know the area very well. We don't have a big corporate sign, just a small board with the company name on it. Most people in the district know the Desai name because we have been working around here for a long time. It is a very straightforward operation. We meet with clients right there in the front room, usually over a glass of water or some tea. It gets very quiet in the evenings after the sun goes down and the birds settle in the trees nearby. It is just a modest place where we do our best to build things right. We try to keep our paperwork organized but it’s hard.
