Our place is tucked away in the Vatva GIDC area, specifically at Plot No. 10 in Gangotri Estate. Being near the Ramol Police Chowki makes it easy for people to find us, which is good because this industrial zone is like a maze of similar-looking buildings. It’s loud around here pretty much all day with the sound of other factories and trucks constantly going by on the main road. We do various industrial jobs inside our unit. The floor is made of hard concrete and it’s seen better days, covered in stains and marks from the heavy equipment we use. We have a small group of workers who have been with us for a long time, so we know each other well. We start early in the morning before the sun gets too high because the heat in Ahmedabad can be brutal once noon hits. There’s a tea stall just around the corner where we usually go for a quick break in the afternoon. We don’t have a fancy showroom or a front desk with a receptionist. If you come by, you’ll probably just see someone in work clothes covered in a bit of grease or dust. We handle the orders as they come in and try to keep up with the schedule. Sometimes the machines break down and we have to spend the whole afternoon fixing them instead of producing anything. It’s just the reality of running a small industrial shop in this part of town and getting the work out the door.
