If you know Gandhi Road, you know how busy it gets, and we’re right in the middle of it at Kacharia pole. ASHWIN ELECTRICALS has been sitting here for quite a while now, just across from Balahanuman. It’s one of those spots where you can hear the bells from the temple and the constant honking of scooters all at once. The shop itself is packed with boxes and all sorts of electrical bits and pieces stacked up on the shelves. It’s not the biggest space, but we know where everything is, even if it looks a bit messy to someone walking in from the street. Most of our day is spent talking to folks who come in looking for specific parts or just asking for advice on a fix. The fans are always going, but it still gets warm in the afternoons. We usually have some tea around four o’clock, and that’s when things feel a bit more relaxed. The old walls of the pole have a lot of history, and you can see it in the architecture around us. We don’t really do much fancy stuff, just handle the orders and make sure people get what they need for their wiring or repairs. Sometimes the delivery guys struggle with the narrow lanes, but they eventually find us. It’s a very honest way to spend the day, right in the heart of the old city.
