Akarshan Floorings & Interiors

Akarshan Floorings & Interiors has been part of the Drive In Road neighborhood for a good while. Our shop is at 7 Vijay Plaza, right near Vijay Restaurant, so people usually find us easily if they know where to eat. We have piles of samples everywhere—wood laminates, different kinds of tiles, and rolls of flooring. It gets a bit crowded in here when a couple comes in with their kids and starts looking at everything at once. Designing a home interior sounds glamorous, but it’s mostly just making sure the measurements are right and the glue holds up. We spend a lot of time talking to carpenters and guys who lay the floors. Sometimes a shipment of material arrives and it's slightly the wrong shade of grey, so we have to sort that out with the warehouse. People stop by to ask what kind of flooring is best for a kitchen or how to fix a scratch in their wood. We aren't trying to be some high-end studio; we just sell the stuff people need to make their houses look decent. The traffic on Drive In Road can be a nightmare in the evenings, but we stay open until the work is done. It’s a messy business with all the dust and the heavy lifting, but it’s what we do. We like seeing a project finally get finished after weeks of choosing handles and floor patterns.
