We are out here in Mehenduri, which is a small place near Akole. It’s quite a distance from the main Pune city, despite what the name of the company might make you think. Most of our days are spent traveling across the Ahmednagar district to look at different sites. Kankar Construction Pvt.Ltd, Pune isn't a big office with air conditioning everywhere. It’s more of a practical base in the village. We have a few desks and a lot of maps of the local area pinned to the walls. The air is cleaner here than in the city, but the roads can be a real problem when the rain starts. We’ve been working around Rumbhodi and the neighboring areas for a long time. Everyone knows our trucks. We don’t do any fancy marketing. Usually, people just come by the office or call us because they heard about us from a neighbor. It’s a slow pace, and we like it that way. We focus on building things that last, nothing too complicated. Sometimes we sit outside and have tea while waiting for a delivery to arrive. Dealing with stones and cement all day is hard work, and your hands never really get clean. But it’s what we do. We’ve been part of this community for years, and we don’t plan on going anywhere else. We just keep our heads down and do our work day by day.
