Vimko Synthetics Llp is right in the heart of the old city in Ahmedabad, over at Sakar Bazar in Maskati Market. If you’ve ever been to Maskati, you know how crowded and narrow the lanes can get. We are at B-9. It’s a historic place for textiles, and we’re proud to be part of that history, even in a small way. Our shop is usually piled high with synthetic fabrics of all kinds. It’s a tight fit sometimes, especially when we have customers and porters moving bundles at the same time. We don't have air conditioning that works very well, so it gets pretty warm in the afternoons. Most of the day is spent on the phone or talking to people who walk in looking for specific materials. We don't bother with fancy brochures or anything corporate. We just know our fabrics. Sometimes we have to hunt through the stacks to find exactly what someone wants, which can take a while. The market is loud, with people shouting and bells ringing, but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. It’s a good community here; everyone knows everyone else’s business. We just keep our heads down and try to provide what people need. It’s not a complicated life, just a busy one in a very old part of town. Lunch is usually a quick tiffin from home, and then back to the rolls of cloth until the sun goes down and the market starts to quiet a bit. It is how it has always been.
