We are located in GIDC Sachin, which is a massive industrial area on the outskirts of Surat. Our unit is on Road number 87 at Plot 998. It is a very busy place with trucks and heavy vehicles constantly coming and going throughout the day. The air always smells a bit like machines and dye from the nearby units. We have a fairly large space here to handle the textile work we do. Most of our day is spent on the work floor, checking the machines and talking to the staff. It is not the kind of place where you would ever wear a suit or fancy shoes. We wear comfortable clothes because it gets very dusty and hot inside the unit. The GIDC has its own rhythm; everything starts very early and goes until late in the evening. We have a small office section where we handle the billing and the phone calls from customers. Sometimes the transport company is late, and we have to find extra space to store the rolls of cloth that should have been gone. It is a lot of logistics and physical work every day. We don't spend money on fancy signs or decorations. The focus is always on the fabric and getting it packed right so it does not get damaged when it is loaded into the trucks. We eat our tiffins together and then get back to the work.
