If you have ever been to the Millennium Textile Market on Ring Road in Surat, you know how chaotic it gets. Our shop, Shree Roopsukan Sarees Private Limited, is tucked away at N-2758-2759 on the upper ground floor. It is a tight squeeze with all the bundles of sarees stacked up against the walls. We spend a lot of time just moving boxes around to make space for the new stock that arrives every other day. The market starts humming early in the morning, and by noon, the noise is something else. You have workers carrying heavy loads on their shoulders and tea sellers weaving through the crowds. We have been in this spot for a bit, and we know most of the neighbors now. Sometimes the electricity flickers when the whole building is running full tilt, but we just keep going. It is a family-type atmosphere here, even if it is a private limited company on the documents. We don’t really have a big fancy showroom; it is more of a working warehouse where we sort through the latest designs and get orders ready for the couriers. The Ring Road traffic is always a mess, so we usually tell people to come early if they want to avoid the worst of it. It’s just us doing our daily bit in the middle of Surat’s massive textile world, trying to keep track of every saree that goes out.
